What a weekend it was!

Time again for my weekly wrap-up!   It was quite a weekend.

Friday night I made two soaps:  Spearmint Patchouli and Carrot Ginger Orange.

Saturday I made 4 lotions – Dry feeling lotion, luxury facial cream, luxury facial lotion, luxury conditioner.

Today I made one more soap (Dragons’ Fire) and got my pictures taken and measured the pH of my lotions.

I’d say I had a great time!  I love my weekends!    And next week is a long weekend because I am taking July 3rd off work (the day before the US Independence day Holiday). So I will have a 4 day weekend!  Can’t wait! Continue reading “What a weekend it was!”

3 New Lotions Today

After making soap last night, I feel like I got that out of my system for a little while.   So today, I chose to use my Saturday to make a few more lotions.

Today I made my husband a “dry feeling” lotion, I also made a luxury facial cream and a luxury hair conditioner.

What makes something a luxury?  I don’t think there is a definition for this, but I use it whenever I use luxury oils, butters, or additives.   For example, if something contained just sweet almond oil, olive oil, and cocoa butter, I would not call that luxury.  But if something contains oils like rosehip seed, evening primrose, olive squalane, or camellia seed oils, or expensive butters like murumuru, cupuacu, or tucuma, then I would call those luxury.  Those are more expensive and exotic oils and tend to have different or “special” properties that can be used to tailor products to different skin types or skin issues (such as wrinkles, pigmentation and so forth).

I have a new toy! My new Extech pH110 pH meter.

Finally!  My Extech pH110 pH meter has arrived!   I ordered it last week from Lotioncrafter, but they are out in Washington (USA) and I am way over in Michigan (USA) so it took a while.

Of course, with a new toy, I had to play!

Thinking Geeky Thoughts

Just thinking out loud on a Monday night… you know — about fatty acid profiles of oils and butters.

Those of you who make cold process soaps are probably somewhat familiar with this concept, although it can be applied to lotion making and bath and body products as well.

Fatty acids are essential fats contained in our carrier oils and cosmetic butters.   They are called “essential” fats because our body needs them.  You may have heard of “Omega-3” and “Omega-6” – these are two types of fatty acids.  (You may have also heard of the Omega-13 if you have seen the movie “Galaxy Quest”, but that is off topic). Four Successful Lovely Lotions and Conditioners

Wow, I don’t know how time flies so fast!   I blinked my eyes and just like magic, it is Sunday night already!

Yesterday it was cloudy and rainy, so I spent most of the day taking pictures of the lotions I had made last weekend.   I only had time left to make one lotion last night.

Then today, I made 3 more lotions and managed to get some “draft” photos of them.  It was sunny again, so that always makes my camera non-compliant. Continue reading “Four Successful Lovely Lotions and Conditioners”

Weekend Roundup – June 11 Edition

Time for a wrap up.  The weekend is already over (sadly). It was a productive weekend, however, as I made 6 lotions and got them all photographed.

I think these won’t be the final pictures though.  It was sunny today and I can’t get good enough pictures unless it is cloudy out. Continue reading “Weekend Roundup – June 11 Edition”

2 More for the Road

Wow, this weekend went by so fast it!  I can’t believe it is already over, but I guess that means that I enjoyed myself so much that time flew.    Because I took pictures today,  and had some chores to take care of, I only got time to get 2 more lotions completed.  That’s 6 for the weekend — not bad at all!
