Christmas Soaps

Vacation is over after today, sadly, but I did get a lot of rest and relaxation in — in the form of soap-making (which for me is R&R).

I had mixed success because I was trying new recipes, incorporating lard.  I didn’t have any “total” failures, but I did have a batch stick to the mold, and a couple others that thickened quickly, so the swirls weren’t as nice as I would have hoped.   Still, I think the soaps turned out “interesting” enough, and will likely be very good, solid bars.  They are going to be Christmas gifts for my family and friends.

Besides the soap, I also got a couple refill batches of lotion made (my Biotone Massage Lotion clone and my nighttime lavender & benzoin lotion).   And, I also made herb infused oils, Melissa lip balm and Lemongrass Pain Relief Balm.    So even though I started out without any plans, I managed to fill my days productively.

Final Two Vacation Soaps

After all that shopping yesterday, I am wiped out!  Luckily it isn’t very hard (nor does it take too much energy) to make soap!

Today, for my final two vacation soaps, I gave the lard another try.    I made two batches with the same recipe (just slight modifications to it for each). Continue reading “Final Two Vacation Soaps”

Wednesday Vacation Power!

It’s the mid-way through vacation already, but I feel like I have already begun to amass a week’s worth of crafting (so that is a sign of a well-spent vacation!).

Today  I was quite busy as I made two soaps and a lotion.  I also managed to get a couple of the malas I made for my husband photographed as well. Continue reading “Wednesday Vacation Power!”

Refills

It’s finally vacation and I have adequate time to devote to refilling all the stuff I made and now can’t live without!

Today I had a busy day making refills — so many refills!

Herbal Potion Balms

It has been far too hot this summer to run my roaster oven to make herb infused oils.  Yes I could have made them using the longer method of brewing them for weeks and weeks and shaking them up in between, but I am far too impatient for that nonsense!

Well today, it was still hot, but I decided to go ahead and make the infusions anyhow because I need them for my vacation this week. Continue reading “Herbal Potion Balms”

Weekend Chores and Recipes

My chores were stacking up on me lately since I have been spending so much time knitting. I spent a good part of my morning today catching them up.

I got my chores done now, and am including a recipe here for some herbal bed time tea and (my dinner), teriyaki chicken marinade.

Hiatus – With Kukicha

Hi!  I have been away for a couple of weeks and thought I would check in.

We are finally executing a major project at work and I have been putting in many, many hours there (about 16 hours per day plus weekends).    I have one more week of this project to go, and then it’s “out of the frying pan, into the fire” into a new project that is just kicking off.   That will also be quite hectic for a few more weeks until I can get all the parts and pieces sorted enough to fall into a manageable cadence.

If I am lucky, I may still get to take vacation in a couple of weeks.  My birthday is coming up and since I didn’t get to take Thanksgiving vacation, I have a week of carry-over to use up.  With the start of a new project,  I am not sure if I will be able to take it or not — but I hope so (although I haven’t even had time to think about a plan for what I would like to do, so I can get any supplies ordered ahead of time).

All these hours of work have left me exhausted and feeling decidedly un-creative.   I have just been taking it easy for the few hours I do get to myself.

Tonight, I am trying to relax, but since I have an early day tomorrow, I didn’t want to relax with a tea containing a lot of caffeine.   I can’t afford to lie awake in bed all night trying to fall asleep.   So I reached for a new (to me) tea called Kukicha.   It has a very low caffeine content and is considered a “winter tea”, so it seemed like a great fit!
