Hi! I have been away for a couple of weeks and thought I would check in.
We are finally executing a major project at work and I have been putting in many, many hours there (about 16 hours per day plus weekends). I have one more week of this project to go, and then it’s “out of the frying pan, into the fire” into a new project that is just kicking off. That will also be quite hectic for a few more weeks until I can get all the parts and pieces sorted enough to fall into a manageable cadence.
If I am lucky, I may still get to take vacation in a couple of weeks. My birthday is coming up and since I didn’t get to take Thanksgiving vacation, I have a week of carry-over to use up. With the start of a new project, I am not sure if I will be able to take it or not — but I hope so (although I haven’t even had time to think about a plan for what I would like to do, so I can get any supplies ordered ahead of time).
All these hours of work have left me exhausted and feeling decidedly un-creative. I have just been taking it easy for the few hours I do get to myself.
Tonight, I am trying to relax, but since I have an early day tomorrow, I didn’t want to relax with a tea containing a lot of caffeine. I can’t afford to lie awake in bed all night trying to fall asleep. So I reached for a new (to me) tea called Kukicha. It has a very low caffeine content and is considered a “winter tea”, so it seemed like a great fit! Continue reading “Hiatus – With Kukicha”
I’ve been a bit under the weather this week. My husband brought home a cold last week and despite my body valiantly trying to ward it off, the virus finally won sometime around Tuesday.
On top of that, I had the week from hell at work. It was really terrible, especially with being sick.
As if that weren’t enough, I was supposed to have the week off for vacation (it is Thanksgiving this week in the US), but due to the aforementioned hell at work — everyone’s vacation is cancelled. Therefore, my much-needed rest and relaxation will have to be put on hold and I will have to put in more hours and energy at work for another month or two until this project wraps up.
All this has left me feeling depleted and a bit moody. My cold is finally starting to fade away, but I am lacking energy and vigor. Continue reading “Give Me Strength! An herbal tisane blend”
I didn’t feel much like doing anything too crafty today. I am getting ready to go back to work tomorrow because my vacation is sadly over. 😦
Instead of making soap, lotions, sewing or doing any of that stuff, I decided to dip into my herb stash and do some experiments of the tasty kind.
I don’t have any tea drinkers in my family, so this was “just for me”. However, I wanted to make them look pretty too, just in case I do find a tea drinker, so I could have a presentable gift for them.

I posted over the weekend about three soaps I had made – Patchouli & Spearmint, Ginger, Carrot & Orange, and Dragon’s Fire. Today they were finally ready to un-mold (sort of) and I got a chance to cut them and get a few pictures.

Time again for my weekly wrap-up! It was quite a weekend.
Friday night I made two soaps: Spearmint Patchouli and Carrot Ginger Orange.
Saturday I made 4 lotions – Dry feeling lotion, luxury facial cream, luxury facial lotion, luxury conditioner.
Today I made one more soap (Dragons’ Fire) and got my pictures taken and measured the pH of my lotions.
I’d say I had a great time! I love my weekends! And next week is a long weekend because I am taking July 3rd off work (the day before the US Independence day Holiday). So I will have a 4 day weekend! Can’t wait! Continue reading “What a weekend it was!”
Friday night my husband was away, so I took the opportunity to play!
I made 2 new batches of soap – Orange Ginger and Spearmint Patchouli. They will not be ready to unmold for a few days, So I will have to come back later and post pictures if they turn out. Continue reading “Getting back into the swing – with soaps”
I made another five lotions this weekend. Out of the five I made, two failed and three turned out wonderfully. I consider that a success!
I am trying out my lotion formulation spreadsheet that I made and trying to see if my calculations produce a good lotion product. In most cases, they do, but sometimes, whether due to human error, or the lotion gremlins (which I suspect really do exist), some recipes just don’t work. I am not sure this weekend’s failures were due to the recipes, though.
This weekend I made five lotions:
- Coffee Sesame and Cupuacu Under Eye Cream
- Vanilla Cocoa Hazelnut Lotion
- Vanilla Aloe Mallow Lotion
- Lush Dupe – Pink Peppermint Foot Cream
- Lush Dupe – Softy Foot Cream
