Menagerie – Vacation Round-Up

Hi all!  I have been away for a couple of weeks.  I needed a break from work and from book writing, and maybe a little bit from creating too.   I took 2 weeks to do just “whatever” instead of having a plan.  Sometimes that is good for the soul!

My plans were somewhat interrupted due to the recent hurricanes and preparations for the next ones.  This made me have a “working vacation” since it caused some extra work at work.  At least I got to enjoy some free time in between “on call” events.

I started out  last weekend with a quick visit “up north” to see my sister, nieces, and deliver all the goodies I have been making them.    It was a nice trip, a beautiful day, and very enjoyable.  Needless to say everything I gifted them was well-received.  Especially the bath bombs — always the bath bombs! Something a little bit different

This weekend was spent doing something different.   I have been making soaps and lotions for so long, that my sewing fell behind schedule.   I was able to catch it up this weekend, though, and I am just two projects short of being done.

To round out my gift to my sister and her girls when I go see them in a couple of weeks, I make them some cute pillowcases and cell phone wristlet purses.

I have made these for them many times before, but they so look forward every year to getting a new one. Continue reading “Something a little bit different”

Salty Mariner Men’s Lotion, Avobath Type Lotion and Frankincense, Lavender and Lemon Facial Cream with Niacinamide

Unfortunately, I did not have such a  great weekend this week.   We had a storm on Thursday night which knocked out power to many customers around where I live.  Luckily my power came back on Friday morning, but my Internet connection was down all day.  It was sporadically out on Saturday as well.

I am thankful that we did not suffer some of the damage that others around here did, but it was real inconvenient without Internet for so long.  So many things won’t work without an Internet connection.   It’s easy to take for granted how “connected” you really are and be taken by surprise by the handicap when you are without it.

Aside from that, I also had a few chores to take care of this weekend, so I didn’t get as much done as I normally do.  I did manage to get three lotions made though, which is better than nothing. And, we have reached the finish line!

Hooray!   I am finally done with all my 56 remakes and am moving on to the next phase!   It took months, and some things had to be made more than once, but my persistence has finally paid off.

With this little candle, I am now done, and so happy to be starting next weekend with taking my final pictures of everything.   Continue reading “And, we have reached the finish line!”

Not much soaping going on…but…

Yes, this site is still about soap making. No, I haven’t posted many soap blog entries lately.  It has been so busy over the holidays and now I am busy at work.   My soap rack is full from my last soaping sessions, so I have been taking the time to catch up on a few other chores around here. Husbands! What are they good for?

Well it turns out, I just happen to have a handy, ingenious husband, so he is actually good for an awful lot!  He is good at indulging me, spoiling me, and coming up with ingenious ways to re-purpose.  😉

I think that everyone is familiar with the 90’s oak CD cabinet.  I think EVERYBODY had one, including me.    It was full of CDs that we never watch anymore, software driver discs that we don’t need anymore, and a bunch of music which has been replaced by digital means.   So we boxed it all up, and my handy dandy husband took off the legs and the base.  The rest turned out to be a fully functional, stand-alone hutch.   I would have never thought of it.  Continue reading “Husbands!
