Refills and Remakes

I realized about mid week this last week that I was almost out of some of my favorite things — Peach Hair Conditioner and Butter Mints Body Butter.

I also dreamed all week long about getting time to experiment further with some more ideas for emulgels, since my first experiment with them turned out so great.

This weekend was spent doing both things!  It was a good weekend.

Kraken Slime – A big NOPE

With my recent success at making an emulgel and learning that it is not a true “gel cream” because my emulgel contained a traditional emulsifier (Polawax) along with carbomer instead of using all polymeric emulsifiers, I was left thinking all week long about how to accomplish a true “gel cream”.

I have Sepimax Zen and Carbomer (pre neutralized) so I decided to give a try to a formula containing these two items to make a gel cream.

I did do previous experiments with Sepimax Zen and didn’t care for it, but I thought maybe it could redeem itself in a gel cream rather than as a clear gel.

Island Escape Lotion

Brambleberry’s Island Escape fragrance is one of the scents that is often requested among my family.    They just love anything I make from it — soaps, candles, reed diffusers and …you name it.   They just love it!

The one thing they haven’t had just yet is a lotion made with this scent, so they are in for a treat this Christmas!

…Just Gellin’…

Lately I have been having a blast playing with sodium carbomer and making gels.

I recently posted a few of my adventures in this regard, and this post is to round out my weekend of gel making, with some new gels I made Saturday and Sunday.

Gel Experiments – Cosmeceutical Gels

It is finally Friday — what a long week it was!  I was excited to get started with my next gel experiments — this time — gels with cosmeceutical ingredients.

Tonight I made two gels — Cucumber Regu-Age PF Gel and Rosewater Cellynkage Gel.

Pre neutralized Carbomer Experiment – Strawberry Willow Bark Gel

It seems I have a new addiction – gels.  🙂

Last night I made a Vitamin B cucumber under eye gel and it turned out just as I was hoping.   Today I had the day off work due to the US Holiday, Thanksgiving.  That gave me a little time to try a new gel — Strawberry Willow Bark Gel.

New Gel Experiment – Vitamin B Under Eye Gel

After my failed experiments with Sepimax Zen a couple of weeks ago, I continued my pursuit of a better way to make a gel that was non-sticky and didn’t smell like a plastic factory. That pursuit led me to order some “Preneutralized Carbomer” from Lotioncrafter.

Pre-neutralized carbomer is a sodium carbomer that does not have to have the pH adjusted  in order to turn into a gel.  I read the data sheet on it and it is apparently a product called PNC 400.  There are other carbomers that do require you add something to raise the pH in order to get them to gel, but the pre neutralized kind sounded much easier to me, and it was inexpensive, so I bought some.

Today my Lotioncrafter package arrived, so tonight I whipped up a batch of gel. Continue reading “New Gel Experiment – Vitamin B Under Eye Gel”
